CIMS’ journey began in 1991, serving the pulp and paper sector with a commitment to technical excellence. Three years later, journeyman boilermaker John McLaughlin joined the team, becoming CEO and majority owner with a clear vision: create a company where skilled trades professionals could deliver their best work.
This vision was tested early. When John learned of an emergency at a local site, he showed up – ready to solve the problem. That responsive approach earned CIMS its first major contract and established a partnership model that continues today.

From those beginnings, CIMS has grown to a team of more than 1,200 professionals across Canada. Our experience in pulp and paper laid the foundation for expansion into oil and gas, pulp and paper, mining and smelting, power generation, chemical, nuclear and termnials – each step driven by our clients’ evolving needs.
